Inaugural music fest to take place next month in Midland

Nov 05, 2023Nov 05, 2023

MIDLAND Next month, a new music festival and car show will pull in at Centennial Park.

On April 8, Pi Social, a specialty restaurant and bar located in Midland, will be hosting the inaugural Tall City American Music Fest and Car Show.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. for the car show with the Texas Songwriter’s Showcase starting at 7 p.m.

The festival will feature food trucks and craft vendors showcasing their wares on site.

“It started out as a vision and I saw the car scene here in Midland when I moved here,” Pi Social General Manager Enrique Dwinal said. “I thought, I haven’t seen a large event that allows people to showcase their cars and I also work across from Centennial Park. I see all the potential that park brings as far as events and concerts and things like that.”

Dwinal said he figured why not put together the best of both worlds.

“The car scene here is huge,” Dwinal said. “The music scene is huge here. Why not bring some artists out here that people can relate to and enjoy friendly music. At the same time, let’s put together a car show and play music with it.”

The car show will be coordinated collaboratively with Texas Stock Rally and the concert will headline the American country music band, Little Texas, who most people might recognize from their wildly popular song “God Blessed Texas.”

“Lisa Grissom manages our music deal at Pi Social and she has a lot of connections with that,” Dwinal said. “We shot the idea to her and she was able to put it together. It was a little bit of a short notice so we didn’t have as many options as we were hoping. But we got them in the mix and see if they were able to come and sure enough, they were able to come out. We’ve got that ball rolling. Little Texas has a lot of history here and when it comes to family-friendly music, they know how to put on a show live. We really wanted to start with that. We’re super excited to have them. I think it’s going to be a blast.”

In addition to Little Texas, the festival will also feature a Texas Songwriter’s Showcase featuring four Texas songwriters including Tony Barker, Cassidy Sooter, Lumby Rivers and J.R. McNutt.

The Tall City American Music Fest and Car Show aims to blend the classic pastime of showing off cars with iconic music selected from the fabric of American Tapestry.

“Texas stock rally, their owner and us got together and his stock car rally club is a unique one,” Dwinal said.” He’s been around for a couple of years. He’s making things happen. I really support him and what he’s done. He’s gotten many people to come together. It’s a family-friendly car club. Once a month, they have big car meets that they go out and showcase their cars and give back to the community. They’re traveling all over Texas to New Mexico and surrounding areas. It’s insane and exciting that he’s been able to be a part of this. Having them apart of this is going to be great.”

Dwinal says there’s going to be about 12-15 vendors at the festival and that he’s hoping to add more before the fest begins.

“We’ll have food trucks and bouncy houses,” Dwinal said. “We’ll have little activities and vendors. I’m pushing to get face painters as well and check off all the boxes when it comes to family friendly festivals. We’re going to have 12-15 vendors out here. Some of them will be barbershops and some freestyle haircuts. We’re trying to get some artists out here to showcase their artwork. Any vendors that want to purchase a tent can do so at our website.”
